HOMEMADE TRAIL MIX

Make a big batch of this trail mix and store in your office draw for a nutritious snack or decant into smaller containers to fuel your adventures this summer. This trail mix is the perfect combination of healthy fats from the nuts and seeds, an energy boost from the dried fruits, and some tasty morsels in the form of popcorn and chocolate buttons. The best bit about this recipe is that it’s fully customisable. Don’t like those sneaky little raisins, no problem, sub them in for a dried fruit that you do like. Not sure about our choice of nuts, no problem, sub them in for your favourites.

Trail Mix Components

This trail mix contains nuts, seeds, dried fruit, some sweet stuff and spices. Check out our top tips below when choosing your ingredients:

  • Nuts - Opt for raw nuts, rather than those that have been coated and roasted. I’ve used a mixture of almonds and walnuts - but you can use any nuts you like. Other nuts could include: pecans, cashews, hazelnuts, pistachios, Brazil nuts, macadamia nuts etc…

  • Seeds - Packed full of fibre, healthy fibre and protein, seeds provide a serious nutritional punch. Like the nuts, opt for raw and unsalted seeds. I’ve used a mixture of pumpkin and sunflower seeds, other options could include: sesame, hemp and linseed.

  • Dried Fruit - Tends to have higher levels of fibre, antioxidants, vitamins and minerals than their fresh counterparts. Where possible try to purchase sun dried fruit that isn’t coasted in sugar, and ideally unsulfured. I’ve used raisins and apricots, but other options could include: figs, prunes, mango, dates, goji berries, banana slices, coconut flakes and cranberries.

  • The sweet stuff - Take this trail mix to another level by adding in some tasty little bites. I’ve gone for popcorn and chocolate buttons, but feel free to be creative here.

  • Spices - Add a flavour boost with your choice of spices. I’ve gone for cinnamon and.a dash of nutmeg, but feel free to get creative here.
